The Reality of Mixed Migration Movements Is Not Worth Political Panics and Crises

Mixed migration is the movement of diverse groups of people originating from different regions, who use the same migration routes. Among them, you may find refugees fleeing conflict or persecution, as well as economic migrants hoping to find a job abroad. People who make up these movements often have an irregular status, explains Brams Frouws from the Mixed Migration Center.

People in such a situation need protection. At the same time, the issue should not be exaggerated, since it affects a tiny proportion of the overall migrating population.

“Look at Europe, to what extent the whole 2015, 2016 situation created such a political crisis. We are speaking of a continent with more than 500 million inhabitants, which is the richest continent in the world. They should be able to properly organize these movements and make sure that people get the protection they need,” Frouws says.
