Youth under the age of 30 make up a third of all migrants. “You can’t have a conversation about youth without bringing youth to the table, because you’re just going to have something that’s very theoretical,” says GFMD’s Youth Forum Chair Marta Verani. “We want governments, the private sector, and civil society to engage us.”
Young people contribute to the conversation on migration through their personal experience as migrants and through the expertise gained working in grassroots organizations.
“Youth on the ground are working towards the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration. What we need is for people to recognize that, and start partnering with us so that we can scale up the solutions.”
During the GFMD Youth Forum’s conference, 68 delegates from 32 countries defined youth’s nine priority topics related to migration.
