Regional Perspectives, Global Convergence: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Human Mobility, Climate Change and Disasters
June 21, 2023 @ June 21, 2023 - June 21, 2023
This event was aimed at fostering an open dialogue among a diverse group of stakeholders including governments, UN agencies, NGOs, and representatives from civil society. The objective was to leverage their diverse expertise and perspectives on policy development in the area of cross-border human mobility in climate change and disaster contexts. By doing so, the event seeks to share practical experiences from different regions, identify obstacles as well as opportunities for policy development, and explore strategies for implementing whole-of-society approaches, underpinned by the principles of climate justice and human rights.
The event evolved from a series of national and regional dialogues conducted throughout 2023 by the CMDP’s Steering Group in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). Engaging civil society representatives from Latin America, Africa, the Pacific Islands, South and Southeast Asia, and Georgia, these discussions – both in-person and virtual – centered on the impacts of climate change on displacement and migration. These dialogues emphasized the importance of well-resourced, inclusive, gender-, age- and disability-responsive policies that respect and protect the human rights of people in vulnerable situations.
