In late January, African civil society and diaspora jointly organised the Abuja Forum, a three-day event aimed at emphasising the importance of African voices in migration discussions. The event addressed themes of significance to African countries, such as labour migration, climate-induced migration and displacement, and the role of the diaspora. The outcome of these discussions was the publication of the Abuja Statement<\/a>, a document collaboratively drafted by African civil society actors and diaspora. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Abuja Forum laid the groundwork for a more robust and active African civil society involvement in the GFMD, and launched civil society engagement in the GFMD as a whole in a \u2018Road from Abuja to Geneva\u2019. The Africa Virtual Forum took place in May as a follow-up to the Abuja Forum, providing an opportunity for non-state actors to share their reflections and contribute to the GFMD process. We are excited to announce the publication of the Abuja Report, which documents the critical takeaways from the discussions, capacity-building sessions, and highlights from group work sessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
