{"id":2564,"date":"2020-09-02T12:08:12","date_gmt":"2020-09-02T10:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gfmdcivilsociety.org\/staging\/9981\/?p=2564"},"modified":"2020-09-02T12:08:12","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T10:08:12","slug":"abu-dhabi-consultations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gfmdcivilsociety.org\/staging\/9981\/abu-dhabi-consultations\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cThe focus on partnerships reflects a collective intention and political will to move from the stage of diagnosing of the problem, to finding effective and creative solutions.\u201d &#8211; Civil Society at the Abu Dhabi regional consultations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An opportunity\u00a0for inclusive dialogue\u00a0and for activating broad cooperation\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>2020 Regional Consultations<\/strong>\u00a0in the lead up to\u00a0the\u00a0Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD)\u00a0Summit\u00a0<strong>came to a\u00a0conclusion\u00a0with the Abu Dhabi Dialogue\u00a0consultation\u2019s\u00a0closing plenary. <\/strong>The\u00a0regional\u00a0consultations,\u00a0which\u00a0took\u00a0place\u00a0as\u00a0part of the UAE&#8217;s 2020 Chairmanship of the GFMD , encompassed participation from both Anglophone\u00a0and\u00a0Francophone\u00a0Africa, West and South Asia, East Asia, the Americas and Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the course of two months,\u00a0governments, civil society, business leaders, and\u00a0local authorities\u00a0around the world took part in\u00a0these online meetings. The final consultation of the\u00a0series\u00a0was held in cooperation with the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/abudhabidialogue.org.ae\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Abu Dhabi Dialogue<\/strong><\/a><strong>, the regional inter-governmental forum for West and South Asia.\u00a0<\/strong>Two other consultations were managed in cooperation with the African Union\u00a0(AU), one with the Asia Pacific-focused Bali Process, one with the Regional Conference on Migration\u00a0(Puebla Process), bringing together the Americas, and one with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development\u00a0(OECD), focused on Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Topics\u00a0discussed<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0participants\u00a0in the Abu Dhabi\u00a0Dialogue\u00a0GFMD consultation\u00a0included\u00a0the impact of\u00a0changing\u00a0employment\u00a0trends on migrant\u00a0workers in the\u00a0Gulf-Asia\u00a0migration\u00a0corridors, the role of  technology\u00a0in\u00a0empowering\u00a0migrants, and the\u00a0role\u00a0of partnerships in\u00a0achieving\u00a0the\u00a0migration-related\u00a0goals of the\u00a0Sustainable\u00a0Development Agenda.\u00a0Other\u00a0issues,\u00a0taken\u00a0up by other regions, included the skilling of migrants, filling gaps in the\u00a0protection\u00a0of\u00a0migrants, and\u00a0addressing\u00a0the challenges of\u00a0irregular\u00a0migration.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cWe must start to work to ensure equal rights and access to services in the post-crisis phase\u201d\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Maryam Al-Ruwaie\u00a0and Julius H.
