SUMMARY:Regional Perspectives\, Global Convergence: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Human Mobility\, Climate Change and Disasters
DESCRIPTION:This event was aimed at fostering an open dialogue among a diverse group of stakeholders including governments\, UN agencies\, NGOs\, and representatives from civil society. The objective was to leverage their diverse expertise and perspectives on policy development in the area of cross-border human mobility in climate change and disaster contexts. By doing so\, the event seeks to share practical experiences from different regions\, identify obstacles as well as opportunities for policy development\, and explore strategies for implementing whole-of-society approaches\, underpinned by the principles of climate justice and human rights. \nThe event evolved from a series of national and regional dialogues conducted throughout 2023 by the CMDP’s Steering Group in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). Engaging civil society representatives from Latin America\, Africa\, the Pacific Islands\, South and Southeast Asia\, and Georgia\, these discussions – both in-person and virtual – centered on the impacts of climate change on displacement and migration. These dialogues emphasized the importance of well-resourced\, inclusive\, gender-\, age- and disability-responsive policies that respect and protect the human rights of people in vulnerable situations. \nRead the outcome documents: Bringing Climate Migration Voices into Global Spaces (fes.de) \nLink to side event: Human rights\, climate change and disaster induced migration & displacement: Regional Perspectives – YouTube \n  \nVenue: ICMC\, Rue de Varembé 1\, 1211 Geneva\, Switzerland

SUMMARY:Joining forces for African-European civil society engagement on migration
DESCRIPTION:As the Association of German Development and Humanitarian Aid Non- Governmental Organisations (VENRO e.V.)\, they used a political framework to strengthen discussions between European and African networks on migration policy issues. Civil society organisations in Africa and Europe form an important bridge to the political processes on the level of the United Nations (UN) and the life situation of migrants and their families. Therefore\, bringing innovative insights on the common challenges of the two continents to the discussions based on the realities of life. \nTogether with their partner Enda ECOPOP\, VENRO organised a workshop on this set of topics on 28 February- 1 March in Dakar. The following questions guided participants through the two days: \n\nHow to build a human rights-based and resilient migration policy between Africa and Europe? What strategies are needed at the intercontinental level?\nHow can civil society actors in Africa and Europe be strengthened to play a more active role in GFMD migration policy-making mechanisms? To what extend is climate change affecting mobility in Sub-Saharan Africa and what are the local responses for adaptation?
