The Civil Society Days of the Global Forum are open to all categories of participants. First and foremost the Days quite naturally offer space to civil society practitioners and experts on migration and development around the world (“the delegates”). In addition, a smaller number of observers, governments and special guests are welcome by invitation only.
Delegates
Civil society delegates are the key participants during the GFMD Civil Society Days. Comparable to previous Civil Society Days, the Days of 2012 will provide space to 150 - 180 delegates of various sectors of civil society, including diaspora and migrant organizations, human rights and development groups, labour unions and representatives from the academic and the private sector. Unfortunately only very limited funding is expected to be available to support the participation of civil society delegates. While such funding is actively being sought, priority will be given to grassroots organizations and groups from developing countries. Selected delegates are encouraged to look for funding opportunities to support their participation!
As in all prior years, selection of Delegates will be performed through an open call for applications, open from 15 May – 08 July. Once again, selection will be supervised by an International Advisory Committee attached to the Civil Society Coordinating Office to ensure inclusive and diverse participation, taking into account sectoral, geographic, and gender diversity, broad constituency and relevant experience and knowledge on migration and development issues.
Selection will be completed in August.
Observers to the Civil Society Days
By invitation only, a limited number of additional participants are welcomed as observers, including international organizations, international foundations and some academic institutions. These are invited on the basis of their knowledge, experience and expertise on the year’s Civil Society themes. Observer invitations will be sent around during the summer.
Government Guests
Government representatives will be invited to attend relevant sessions of the Civil Society Days, with invitations sent around in the summer.
Special Guests
Special Guests include representatives that fulfill a distinct role in the GFMD process, such as representatives from the current Chair Mauritius and its Taskforce. Invitations will be sent from the summer onwards.
